Developer of Popular Cydia Tweak “Barrel” Says 3% of the Downloads are Paid

The first couple of hours have gone by at JailbreakCon. On stage the developer for the well known Cydia tweak “Barrel” said that he was able to tell how many downloads of Barrel are paid and how many are pirated. He came up with the percentages saying that 97% of the downloads of the tweak are pirated and only 3% of the downloads are paid.

This was a shocking percentage in my opinion, I knew the numbers would be high but, not this high. I was expecting them to be at least 25% paid but, 3%? Thats just bull crap. I have no respect for someone who cannot respect a developers hard work on a tweak that you are enjoying for free. Would you be happy if somebody took 97% of your check? No, you would more then likely be enraged and pissed as all get out at the people who took 97% of that pay. If you do this you have absolutely no respect for developers, you are stealing something that is not yours, and you are a selfish little bastard. I made a video a while back ranting about how people should stop stealing apps and tweaks. I received allot of anonymous dislikes from people (the cowards as usual) and allot of comments that mostly said stuff like “I love developers and support them”. But, in all reality the people leaving those comments probably have stollen all of their tweaks.

When people ask me how to get all the apps for free with jailbreak (which is sadly probably the #1 reason new people jailbreak) I always tell them that they are going to have to look elsewhere or gather some respect for developers are realize that these people work hard and deserve credit for their tweaks. If I got paid for 3% of my videos, I wouldn’t be able to make videos anymore. I am shocked that developers even stick around developing for people who just steal their product as if nobody worked hard to develop the tweak.
